I'm so excited you're here. Go ahead, listen in.

Jessica Rosario:

Welcome back to the Maximize Your Day podcast. This is Jessica Rosario, your business coach and host of the podcast. I am so excited to be able to share with you guys today my next guest And you know I say this all the time you're in for a treat, but truly, truly, you're in for a treat Carrie Lear-Nardini. I had the pleasure of meeting, through the PDP program, with Patrice Washington a couple years back, and being able to connect and network and being able to share her story today is such an inspiration. So, Carrie, without further ado, just introduce yourself. Let us know who you are, what you do and what brought you to the circle.

Carrie Leonardini:

Yes, hello, hello. Thanks for having me. And yes, I love helping other Christian women be able to step out of the comfortable and into the possible with their health and their body. I know so many women who are after creating healthy habits, but it's been challenging. They've done all the things, And so I really help equip them and guide them of how to implement simple principles to be able to build a healthy, strong and fit body and lifestyle that's honoring to God and allows them to feel confident and empowered and to do the work that they've been told to do here in this world. So that's what I get to do.

Jessica Rosario:

I love that And I love that summary, and I love how you said about stepping out of the comfortable and into the possible, because I think a lot of times, especially when it comes into the health and wellness conversation, we get stuck right. We get stuck with all of the things that we have to do with the running around, the busy. We were busy as if it was a badge of honor, right, but we forget that it's so important to take care of our temple, our bodies, first, and I'm on the struggle bus with it myself. So I can't wait to hear more about how you help other women, because I think that there is someone that's listening to the podcast right now that is also struggling with the same, the same issues, the same the same confidence issues, and I know that there's a message here for them. So tell me a little bit, carrie, about what led you to health and fitness.

Carrie Leonardini:

I've always been an active person, from when I was a being a kid, I was always outdoors, running around, playing, swimming, you know, always active.

Carrie Leonardini:

And as I looked back on my journey, god had me like really I don't know like really reflect. And I'm like because for me it's very innate, it's just who I am. Don't have a huge weight loss story, i don't have this huge transformation in regards to going from this size to this size. I've been given the gift of knowing how to steward my body well, without realizing that's what I was doing, and so I had to reflect and God had to show me the steps he took me through of learning it, because it has to be. It's something that does come easily for me Doesn't mean I don't have challenges and struggles on my own. I'm a, i'm a woman, for one, i'm Santa Earth, and there's lots to we have to overcome with that. But that's where I started.

Carrie Leonardini:

I lived in a single parent household with a father who didn't take care of his body, and I saw what it did to my family, like he was in a wheelchair and he's he's passed away already. He was only 65 because he didn't take care of his body. He chose not to And I knew I never, ever want to be in that place ever. Like I knew subconsciously, before I knew it consciously, and I think that's what really drive me And that's how I try to raise my kids and just teaching them not that they always want to learn, but encouraging that what food is, how to take care of their bodies, what your body is actually needing and what can happen if you do too much of this versus this. So that's just who I am And that's what I just love doing. It's how I came about just having unhealthy people in my life physically unhealthy, mentally unhealthy to then be able to help others learn what healthy is according to biblical terms versus the world's terms.

Jessica Rosario:

I love that. How do you incorporate the biblical terms into someone's health journey or health struggles?

Carrie Leonardini:

First thing, it is it's mindset. How are you viewed in your body? Is it through the lens of Christ or through the lens of man? Are we looking at what Sally's doing over here and what she looks like and how? we don't measure up, because she's got five kids and seems to have everything perfectly well. She's a size two and perfect figure, yet behind the scenes, for life is falling apart, where her husband's watching pornography and her kids are mentally ill. That's the biggest thing. Is that shift in. How are we viewing our body? Are we loving it the way God loves it, or are we seeing it through that veil?

Jessica Rosario:

That's all powerful.

Carrie Leonardini:

That's the biggest one and that was a struggle for me. That was where my struggle was, especially when I got into this line of work. I started as a personal trainer. I have to look the part. I think I adopted that identity. My brother had made a comment, not to harm me, but just said oh, you got to make sure you look the part now. But I took that internally like, oh my gosh, i have to change how I look in order to be accepted and be able to people to believe that I could help them.

Carrie Leonardini:

I started to do things to transform my body, so to speak, but I never actually wanted to look the way I thought I had to look. Of course I never did, because God can't give you what you are believing for or as he gets possible. I'm glad he didn't, because that was not the way he created my body. It's not the way he created me and he's made me an everyday athlete. I will say I'm not someone who has a six pack and MSI's too, but I'm strong, fit, powerful, and that's what I impart to the women I work with. It's seeing our body for what it is. It's supposed to be holy instead of part. It's a challenge to walk in that identity in this world, the more we come together and sharpen one another and learn. What are these principles? how do I practically implement And that's the piece that that's my jam to practically implement those daily actions that create that sustainable lifestyle, that allow you to walk in that abundant health?

Jessica Rosario:

And I think that's so important because a lot of times when women, when I can only speak about myself and the people around me right, we tend to think that the goal is the weight loss And, realistically, the goal is not the weight loss. The goal is to be able to implement and start some attainable healthy habits that also help you shift your mindset in the process of, and the weight loss itself is just an added bonus, right.

Carrie Leonardini:

It's a byproduct. It's a byproduct of you stewarding your body better. It's a natural byproduct, and it's and God wants you to show feet. But if we get stuck on a number on the scale or the size of our pants as our primary focus, we're always going to be disappointed. So you didn't do the internal work first.

Jessica Rosario:

Right, right, there was a book that I was reading recently. a good friend of mine shared it and it's called Made to Crave. Have you read that book before? So it's Made to Crave and it's by Lisa Turckburst And she talks about that specific issue of really inviting the Holy Spirit into our conversation and knowing that we are building our temple, as you know, for the kingdom of God. right, it's really. it's really being able to say no when we need to say no. It's kind of like you know she shares a lot about, like the little angel on one shoulder and the little devil on the other shoulders. I get, what's that gun? What's that piece of bread going to do? It's no big deal, just add some butter.

Carrie Leonardini:

Yeah, yeah, take your time. today, that's that was me. I was like, oh, we're down, i can even have a little girl walk until I hit my 30s, and guess what. And then I'm 40s, and then we get stuck in the comparison trap. Oh, but I used to do my 20s, you know, and you're doing it in your 40s and it's not working. And then you're like, oh well, guess what? Your body's changes and we have principles. don't change. The principles are the same, but how you implement them changes as your body changes.

Jessica Rosario:

I love that.

Carrie Leonardini:

Do not change. They do not change, so it's just how you apply them and the actions you take is what shifts, as your body shifts.

Jessica Rosario:

You hit something really important, and it's about the age right. So the older we get, the more our bodies change. Can you shed some light on that?

Carrie Leonardini:

Yeah. So for women I mean, our hormones start to be about 35 to 38. We're going to start noticing, maybe, some shifting as in how our body maybe loses or gains body fat easily or harder. Typically it's easier to gain it than it is to lose it. Our hormones fluctuate, with our estrogen and progesterone, cortisol and insulin that are impacted And those are the two key hormones that dictate body fat gain or loss. And then if our estrogen and progesterone are going down, that tells our body where to deposit the fat. So when estrogen lowers, right midsection, midsection, hips, thighs that's where we see the weight, because body is gains weight there as we get older, because that's where your internal, your organs are, or typically most of them are in your abdominal cavity. So that's where that fat's going to protect them. Your body thinks it's protecting.

Carrie Leonardini:

So women trying to cut their calories too low, they affect their cortisol and insulin which short term they might lose the weight. Guess what? Boom, it's back And guess what? It might even be double And then it takes three times as long to lose it because now your metabolism, your insulin, your cortisol are all out of whack And it takes your body longer now to get it back into homeostasis and balance. So there's things that we can do, that we start noticing our body doesn't need as many calories neftuts thoroughly depending if we're not as active. So people will put calories but then cut their activity, which means you're now just back at maintenance.

Jessica Rosario:

You're not doing anything.

Carrie Leonardini:

That's where your body's not really going to change And so people don't realize. You gotta keep your activity level up. When you are, you know. If you're on a journey to release some body fat, to get to a healthy weight for yourself, that you know your body is not at right now, then we have to be mindful of how you do that. It's not a lot of restricting by any means. It's just tailoring your macro nutrients to what your lifestyle is and with what your goals are. It's the simplest, easiest way and you can do that at any age.

Jessica Rosario:

So what would you say to the woman that's listening and saying man, those are a lot of steps, or that's a lot of things that I have to, you know, take into consideration? What is the 101 version of someone that's just starting out but never took care of their bodies and they just want to get started somehow right now?

Carrie Leonardini:

Move 10 minutes a day. Move your body intentionally for 10 minutes a day to try to get your heart rate up. Do that for a week or two. Be consistent. Then start adding water and an extra glass of water a day. Do that for another week or two. Keep doing that. You do one step at a time, one baby step. So the first thing I tell my clients, first thing you do, is we ask the Holy Spirit to come in and ask for that vision of what God's best is for you and your health. What is his best for you, what is that vision, what is the imprint, what's the impression that you feel? And then ask Lord, how do I start today? What is that? one step, And so I take clients through, actually have a new program that's launching.

Carrie Leonardini:

That's root, that we're taking them step by step, of how to simply implement one thing at a time. Each week We have a micro focus on one of the five pillars And then we start practicing that at calm towns, right And at the end of the time, together they have all the tools. They're walking in implementing it and then they have the option to continue on, to refine the process, to truly have an inside out transformation at the end of the time together. So they have all the tools, the knowledge, the wisdom and the discernment to be able to continue the journey And know how to refine where they need to refine, how to rebuild if they need to rebuild, how to reset when they need to reset.

Jessica Rosario:

So for most women that lose weight and join programs and whatnot, let's just say they did it with the focus of I've got to lose I don't know 10 pounds before my wedding day or I've got to lose X amount for some special event. You did mention something that usually they kind of get to add it back on right Because it's not sustainable. So what would you say to someone that wants to maintain that weight loss, whether it's 10 pounds or something more significant? what are some ways that they can do that? moving forward, Yeah.

Carrie Leonardini:

So if they have obtained their goal weight and they're back to maintenance, so it's able to maintain their movement routine and they're going to increase actually their calories slightly to be at maintenance, because they don't want to drop anymore, they want to now maintain And so it's just adjusting their macronutrients, their protein, fat or carbs mostly it's carbs and fats that they'll adjust to be at maintenance And then that body is not in a calorie deficit anymore. That's now eating what it's need. They're spending as much energy as they're eating. So there should be no weight, not much weight fluctuation. Women, one to five pounds, honestly, a day. Your weight can fluctuate from water, weight, inflammation And that's normal, but you want to be at maintenance. So just be adjusting the nutrition and keeping your movement the same and then you'll be at maintenance and maintain it.

Jessica Rosario:

I love that And it makes me think also of a lot of us are on the go right, And we're quick to grab, whether it's a protein bar or protein shake or something that's quick and easy to do. Considering this is the Maximize Your Day podcast, right. What are some of your go-to options for a quick meal, but it's still healthy and it's still provides nutrients that we need.

Carrie Leonardini:

I am the type of person I take food with me wherever I go. I have my little lunch bag. I prep it the night before or before I take off. I make sure I calendar my day in a way that allows me to do it. I'll grab full fat Greek yogurt about a half a cup and throw on about a quarter cup of granola, plant-based no-refron sugars, a little bit of goji berries, a sprinkle of sprouted pumpkin seeds, maybe a drizzle of raw money, and then throw a spoon in there and I'm going.

Carrie Leonardini:

And I'm going to eat my fat and my carbs, i'll take some grass-fed beef jerky whole sticks, throw a couple in there, throw an apple, maybe some sweet bell peppers. I throw it all in. My focus is protein and veggies because those are my two areas for myself personally, that I have to be more intentional in. I'm a carb girl. I eat carbs all day. Give me a bag of chips Not the best carbs, i want the chips, that's my thing, But I can have them. I make sure I'm having the other things that support my body that I can still enjoy with my fun things, and I find healthier options for the less nutrient-dense treats. So simple, i'm simple. All the way. Dinners we have a protein, a veggie and sometimes like a starchy part, depending, and then, like I don't have time I'm a single mom of two kids and I run a business. There's no, mama don't have time for no.

Jessica Rosario:

So those people that are listening, you can hear that right. It's like I say that all the time. It's like mama don't have time for that. So understanding what is your quick go-to meal is going to be really important. So feel free to pause or rewind the episode so you can hear some of her ingredients, because I think that's awesome, oh yeah, and I also love doing full-food smoothies.

Carrie Leonardini:

So for me, my focus and I have my clients focus on four to six fistfuls of vegetables a day, and so I make a whole-food smoothie where I'm getting four or almost five servings of vegetables in that And I throw a little bit of fruit in there. There you go, like I'll do half a frozen banana, i'll do a big, probably two fistfuls of spinach, fistful of set up zucchini, some rice, cauliflower, and then I'll add like a tablespoon of nut butter and a little drizzle of raw honey Was unsweetened to all the milk blended up and you're ready to go.

Jessica Rosario:

Awesome, awesome. I love that Their go-to. Not only does it satisfy the hunger right, it's still a healthier choice rather than going for the Sure, you know.

Carrie Leonardini:

Or you can even add a scoop of clean quality protein powder to get an extra boost there. Protein's going to help you feel fuller longer, and fats healthy fats will help you feel fuller longer too. So those are like quick, easy take out some lunch meat decent lunch meat with a mozzarella stick, wrap it up and then throw some veggies in a plastic baggie terroding. You're saying you're ready to go.

Jessica Rosario:

Love that. So, Carrie, we're both women of faith, right, And we serve a lot of women of faith. How would you say that a faith-filled woman or a Christian woman or whatever we want to label ourselves? how can we redefine health in a way that is focused on kingdom impact rather than on fitness or a body or appearance? How do we redefine that?

Carrie Leonardini:

That's the whole mission is redefining health for kingdom impact. That's my mission. And it's looking through the lens of Christ. And what is the word say about stewardship? Because we're stewards of everything our money, our kids, our relationships, our body. It's stewardship. We don't own anything all alone to us. So, looking at it from that lens, how can I best take care of this vessel that the Lord has given me? What does he show me in his word? And that's why I have five pillars. He shows us how are we to eat, how are we to take care of our physical body movement, how are we to rest and recover, how are we to be thinking And how are we putting our faith into action. And by doing this and stewarding it and putting these practical steps in, then we are walking in obedience and the byproduct is we're healthy, strong and fit, my Bonnie and spirit.

Jessica Rosario:

Love that. So for the woman that starts to walk 10 minutes a day, increasing their water intake, you know, and I have to say water that plays a significant role. I have people that tell me all the time you know, you've got to double your weight, you've got to this, you've got to that, and being in Florida, we kind of have no choice than to drink a lot of water. Right, so the person is drinking water, the person is walking 10 minutes a day. How do they incorporate prayer and meditation into that routine And what are the benefits of doing that?

Carrie Leonardini:

So, for me, first thing I do in the morning after my prayer, devotion time journaling. You know I get up, i go for a 15 to 20 minute walk while my kids are getting ready for school. Because they're at age now They can do that without me being on top of them, and that's my time. I put on worship music, i will open up my raditudes and start speaking them. I'll start just inviting the Holy Spirit in and just looking at all the abundance and God's glory around me. Like you, look at these all the I mean look at me different trees and plants and birds and animals we have. Like for me, that's how I connect with the Lord. The deepest is being out, and so that's it. Like, when you go out and dedicate that time to the Lord, say, lord, this is for you, you know, and then inviting the Holy Spirit in to give you any downloads at that time. And that's where you're not worrying about this or that. You're there focusing on it. When I work out, i put it in my calendar, like I have my after this. I'm working out, it's in my calendar, i know exactly what I'm doing.

Carrie Leonardini:

I personally am on a journey of, you know, working through the whole hormone shifting phase And what I was doing is not working the same as it used to. So I have to now make intentional changes and be intentional in my activities to yield the result I'm after. So I actually just shared this on my podcast. So now I'm doing a specific plan that I created for my own personal goals that I have to be diligent in If I want to be able to continue to sewer the body well and be at a weight and the flexibility and so forth that I desire as I get older and to be able to keep up with my kids. So I'm the type of person that likes to do a whole bunch of different things. I get bored real easy. This is testing my faith, my endurance, my perseverance, because I have to do something else than what I wrote down, cause, like I said, i get bored, but I know that being diligent in it and being faithful in it it's going to yield that harvest that I know is coming.

Jessica Rosario:

I love that. Well, can you talk to me about any challenges that you faced in your own health journey, and then how do you believe your faith has helped you overcome those challenges?

Carrie Leonardini:

Well, i really believe that the Lord gave me physical fitness, the love of lifting weights for a purpose, because my physical strength is directly related to my mental, spiritual strength. I had gone through divorce over 10 years ago and something I was not able to go through, and it was one of the most challenging times getting divorced and being a single mom and one and four year old being completely on my own, going back to work, all these things and without that outlet of working out, i don't know where I would be today. You know, having that outlet, being able to look back and see how the Lord put it in my path for a purpose, people I got to connect with And this is before I was a believer, mind you, and then I became a believer and then just seeing how your physical, your mental and your spiritual, it's all connected, it's all. Again, we have a triune God. So are we like? mind, body, spirit and how it all works together And mind is the physical aspect for me is really what amplifies the spiritual as well.

Jessica Rosario:

I love that. Wow, i mean this has been so great and just so many nuggets, you know, in the process of our health journey And I'm sure there's so much more. I mean we can keep talking about this for days. Right, if you were to talk to someone right now that's listening to this podcast and you know she's struggling with all of the things She's struggling with her health, with her mind, says she's struggling even in her fate. What is something that you would tell her right now?

Carrie Leonardini:

To go read Luke, chapter 12, verse 22,. like how much more does God love you than He already takes care of the birds of the air? right, there's nothing we can do to separate us from the love of God, and that if she has a desire to truly walk in abundant health, the Lord gave her that desire. Therefore, he will show her, step by step, how to do it. It's not for her to take on the whole staircase.

Carrie Leonardini:

That's not how God works. We have to do it step by step and to surrender our control of that, because the Lord knows what's best. And so don't do it in silence, don't suffer in silence. Reach out for help, call up a girlfriend, call somebody you know, reach out to Jessica I, because it's not something meant to do alone. We're not meant to walk this life alone. So I have someone else I'm actually talking to right now That feels like that struggle bus. She's done all the things, tried all the things, she's been fit before, but now she's not Again. It's just that simple shift in your mindset. Is this what you feel called to do? And guess what? Say this is what I'm involved in, i'm doing it period. And then you will start getting those holy downloads of that. Next thing to do, one step at a time.

Jessica Rosario:

So great. It's just, it's like anything. I mean women. We're more about the relationship building And, whether it's in your health journey, whether it's in parenting, i went through a season where I was an empty nester for a bit earlier than I expected right, and that, right there, i needed to be connected with people that were holding on right, cause there was some days that I just I just wanted it to be held right And and I think that's so important to be able to to have the right people in your circle to support you in that process. So, whether it's health, whether it's entrepreneurship, whether it's children or all of the changes that we experience, we are in this to build community. And I know, carrie, you have a free community, i have a free community. So find someone that you know that is like-minded, and join forces with other like-minded individuals to support you through that journey. So, absolutely love this, carrie. So so, carrie, tell me something How do you maximize your day?

Carrie Leonardini:

I have a morning routine in place. It's the same routine every darn day because that is what sets me up for success. So I get up, i have some water, i use the bathroom, i come back to my bed, i have my Bible, i have my blue letter, bibleorg to study, i have a journal and I sit down and I just ask the Lord, what does he want me to know today? And I'm reading through 1 Corinthians right now and taking whatever scripture just grabs me and I write it out And then I just start free writing whatever the Holy Spirit just told me, without thinking, and I read it back over, i pray, get up, make sure the kids are good, go outside, go for my walk, get back, take the kids to school. And that's how I do my day. I always get my nourishing of my mind, my body and my spirit first thing in the morning. The kids know it's my time and that's truly what allows me to set it up.

Carrie Leonardini:

And I have an accountability partner for my business and we do a text every day where we say what we're doing. We have an acronym we created called FINE, which is future income. We're talking about future income that we're working on. I need, which is our self care and is for now. What are you doing now in regards to your business income? Do you have fly to your service team And then E is for everyday tasks. So we're getting something in personal business, our spirit, and it allows me truly to maximize my day and stay on course.

Jessica Rosario:

So cool, so cool. I love accountability partners because I think that's not only do we owe it to ourselves, right, that self accountability piece that I think is so important, but being able to connect with someone else that is not gonna judge me, that is only gonna push me, and that is gonna speak with me with love. And sometimes, what do they say at tough love? right, we sometimes need to hear it. So I love that you're able to surround yourself with those type of people in your community as well.

Carrie Leonardini:

Yes.

Jessica Rosario:

So, carrie, tell me what is something new that you have coming up? I heard you talk about your group program. What's new and exciting?

Carrie Leonardini:

Well, i'm super psyched cause this is something actually that was on my vision board and the Lord gave me a number 208. I'm like you want me to serve 208 women this year. Okay, i've been wanting to truly have a true group experience, more of a sisterhood, cohorts, whatever you like to call it really to bring women together, for them to walk together through this journey of building a healthier body, mind and spirit. And it's finally come to fruition. So that is what's coming about and it's through, it's the practical steps of biblical stewardship of your physical body. I'm really working on the mindset shift piece as we implement the practical things daily. So you're making that shift to really get your identity back rooted in Christ versus in our formed identity.

Carrie Leonardini:

We pick that through society and all the things, while you're still practically working on your physical health, and so that is gonna be launching the first week in June, where we have two ladies who jumped in at founding member, so we have 10 spots I'm doing as founding member, so it's about a $500 discount off the price And it's a three month journey together with the option to do an additional three months of refinement at a deeply discounted rate for founding members. So that is something we're doing and just super excited for these women joining in because they are truly ready. This program is not for those who need it. This is for those who are ready for it, know that they have to do some work and it's work on the hard work, because that's the hardest work, is the hard work. Particle step is the simple. It's the hard work. So we do it together because, again, my goal is to have you transform from the inside out And I equip you with that, but you have to still do the work.

Jessica Rosario:

Love that. And Carrie, where can my audience find you if they wanted more information?

Carrie Leonardini:

Yeah, totally. They can send me a message over on Facebook. That's the best place to reach me. I'm on Instagram, but not as much Facebook. They can also jump and find me over at the strong and fit women of faith Facebook group. It's our private community. They can come join that. They can feel free to post in there or tag me, but DMs is probably the quickest way to get in touch with me.

Jessica Rosario:

Awesome. And, just so you guys know, we will have those links in the show notes. Jessica Rosario:

Oh my gosh, thank you so much for being here today, for sharing your knowledge, your hard, your expertise, your faith, just all the things. I know we had some technical things in the very beginning of the show, or it just completely knocked us out, and the one thing that I said to you was is if there's one person that needs to hear this message today, let them receive it. But obviously something was going on that they didn't want us to connect and share that story. So if this show impacted you, definitely we want to know, we want to hear more. So thanks for being here, carrie.

Carrie Leonardini:
